Commercial Energy Manager sought by company which provides a comprehensive all-in energy support service to a number of the UK’s largest horticultural growers. Working in tandem with an in-house Service Desk based in Leicester, the role involves overseeing the commercial operations of each horticultural nursery’s Combined Heat and Power scheme to ensure cost effective heat and CO2 is delivered to the client’s glasshouse.
The role of Commercial Energy Manager is varied and includes:
• Producing a daily summary of energy prices and market commentary.
• Management of day-to-day trading of gas and electricity via a Platform/Portal; this includes
optimisation of on-site assets (engines and boilers) through bidding in to sell Day Ahead or
via ‘Over The Counter’.
• Management of all electricity and gas agreements (going ‘out to tender’, reviewing &
summarising offers to lead to contract recommendations per grower).
Management of participation in various National Grid ancillary services (STOR, Balancing Mechanism, Capacity Market)
• Validation of gas and electricity invoices/statements including resolving any metering and
invoice issues by providing technical expertise and discussion with energy suppliers
• Monthly reports of gas and electricity prices, volumes, costs and revenues
Managing participation in Government’s Combined Heat and Power Quality Assurance Programme - monthly updates and annual submission; submission of climate
change levy documents, CCL PP10 and PP11 and liaison with The CHPQA Programme over ad hoc site visits.
• Management of Carbon Price Support mechanism - collection of charges, estimates based on current performance and quarterly payments to HMRC
• Client contact via ‘phone/Teams/email and site visits to Yorkshire and Essex as reasonably
required to develop an energy trading/purchase strategy bespoke to each client
The Commercial Energy Manager will probably Degree (or equivalent) qualified, you are commercially aware and should have a good understanding of the commercial workings of the UK energy sector, in respect of trading of gas and electricity; pricing/tendering process; National Grid ancillary services; Governmental schemes and programmes pertinent to the energy sector; compliance with environmental regulations in respect of energy, etc. You are an effective communicator and an excellent administrator with a close eye for detail.
This is a role that can be based at the company’s Leicester offices or performed from home on a hybrid basis with weekly visits to the office.
