Purchasing Analyst

Job Description

An excellent opportunity to join the expanding supply chain team as a Purchasing Analyst in an established, successful £40m turnover business which has a global supplier base.


The key purpose of the Purchasing Analyst role will include creating and analysing documented comparative costs submitted by suppliers in the Request for Quotation or Tender process; establishing pricing and performance standards through supplier contracts and assessing the overall business needs and providing analysis and support to improve the profitability of the company through initiatives within the supply chain function.

Key responsibilities of the role include:






Assist with the purchase of materials and equipment required by the company, ensuring that this meets agreed specifications and can be delivered with the best cost and lead times for the required quantities.


Close attention and adherence to document control.


In conjunction with the Quality team, assist with the performance of suppliers and products to ensure that they meet the required Acceptable Quality Limits that have been agreed by the business.


Evaluate and compare vendors giving the best cost benefit to the business.


Ensure company is taking full advantage of the most favourable commercial terms while adhering to the company vendor list.


Report any significant supply problems to ensure that departments and functions are kept aware of any potential difficulties. Work with suppliers to find solutions to improve potential shortages or service issues.


Maintain the company database to ensure supplier details, lead times and prices are accurate.


Seek and fully understand any proposed changes that will deliver reduced costs, better lead times or a better service level for the business.


Maintain good business relationships with key suppliers and help identify any supply gaps.


Generate monthly cost analysis reports to the Procurement Executive outlining supplier spend and purchase price variance.


Support and work closely with Quality & Operational representatives to drive supplier performance improvements and support the resolution of Non-Conformance issues in a timely manner.


Undertake such additional tasks and duties as may be required, which may also include from time to time some business travel. Undertake responsibility in the absence of the Procurement Executive.


Applicants for the post of Purchasing Analyst should have prior experience in a similar purchasing role and have excellent analytical skills to review data and convert into justification reports. Very good communication skills are required to liaise with suppliers and colleagues across the business. You should be a team player who has the ability to read basic engineering drawings and you must have demonstrable experience of working to stringent deadlines. You must be a competent user of Microsoft Office.
