Job Description

R&D Product Manager sought to drive new product development and operate as the technical head of the business, a profitable and growing business engaged in the manufacture of a wide range of bespoke and off the shelf product solutions for the construction industry and one which is embarking on a major investment programme in manufacturing plant and people.

 

Leading a small but expanding team of Design and Customer Engineers, and liaising closely with Product Managers in order to drive the new product development strategy, you will be joining a £25m turnover operation, a division of a large PLC Group, that is fully committed to growth.

 

Quickly gaining an understanding of the technical standards applicable to the products, you will become the divisional champion of new product technology of benefit to the business, engaging with suppliers, academia and other relevant external sources. You will monitor competitor activity and assist with answering the more complex technical questions from customers.

 

Leading and mentoring a small team of Engineering Designers to develop new products from concept stage to product handover, you will also be leading R&D projects which are pre- project approval and those signed off for production. The development of products which reduce environmental impact in their manufacture, transport and use will also be a key responsibility.

 

You will also work closely with Purchasing to lead a cost-reduction team to deliver savings.

 

A key member of the management team, supporting and where necessary challenging fellow managers, you will be tenacious in pursuing technical excellence with the goal of ensuring that product performance and quality provides a competitive advantage for the business.

 

You must have experience of engineering design and development and working in a technical role in a manufacturing business, and ideally be familiar with manufacturing processes that span casting, milling, metal bending, painting , welding and general assembly.

 

Customer focused and collaborative in your approach and dealings with colleagues (especially the Sales and Product Management teams), you have good mentoring skills, you are a skilled communicator and you are positive in your outlook.
